| In the design process, we do not start with the program, but with an ALTERnative source of information. The result is that the program then is induced by the already conceived space. Construction methods and materials to be used are a direct result of the relationship between region, locality, meaning, program, craftsmanship, and economic frameworks. Intervening with history Existing structures and landscapes have an overall idea about them-we, through research, excavate into the structure and its context and write a new story based on that original idea. The primary idea is used as a MEDIATING device and the new story as an intellectual base for intervention in a simultaneous act of creation. Space is explored through the application of different operations and strategies. We are informed by sources that, in many cases are not related to the challenge at hand, but are drawn from the most unexpected of origins. In this manner the project and the spaces that make up the whole acquire meaning along alternative paths of processing information. Themes that have the power to generate meaningful moves and design gestures are analyzed in order to see if these are to be part of the design process for having the power of generating and motivating the different phases of the project. Confering meaning to the land: the search for local and universal themes Remapping the line between nature and culture is achieved by finding the meaning of the particular geography of the terrain. Continuity and integration are main venues for intervention. By showing sensitivity to the interplay between natural topography and building morphology, continuity between structure and setting is achieved and spaces are carefully crafted to fit the contours of the terrain creating emergent behaviours and events Bridging inside with site and region Interior space is an intellectual construction defined in its perimeter-enclosure is embraced by juxtaposing different stories on, under or to the sides of the preconceived interior space- speculation on materials, colors and sensorial issues are explored to further enhance the relationship between structure, the space defined by it, and the exterior space adjacent to it. The trilogy of interior, architecture and landscape is always revisited in order to find integration through movement. Resort development as a contemporary global spatial experience With a remarkable experience and insight knowledge of the Greater Caribbean basin-English and Spanish speaking- as desired destination for tourism related exchange, DESIGNalter studio has a grasp on how contemporary design is contributing to change the tourism scene. Land development, understanding of tourism as a spatial entity and generator of unique real state product are just some of the fields of expertise in handling leisure, entertainment and pleasure destinations. It all begins with confering themes to the land, the platform of the architecture of entertainment. Then, the interior realm, a vital component of resort development is also one of our main activities, for we understand the requirements, desires, and knowledge of guest. Hospitality purveying that includes ff&e specification is also part of our services if required. Understanding the relationship between ownership and resort living Be it a second home, a residential community, or a time share property, the options seem to grow daily. We, at DESIGNalter studio, are up to date in all these manners of permanent or fractional ownership, offering alternative ways to occupying the land while preserving it and adding a tremendous value to the territory through well thought out design. Amenities then can work as a result of resort destination or the programmatic choices of the client. Landscape design is a key element in developing properties with spatial relations that are globally successful, but applying local knowledge in the construction techniques and materials with meaning in order to give local accent and flavour to the development. The role of related disciplines in our thinking and making of space The fusion of CITY, FASHION, and ADVERTISEMENT act as the ingredients in a laboratory environment; the instruments by which exploration of ideas about territory, landscape, urbanism, structure, advertisement, settlement, and contextual design, among others, are to be examined and tested. The previous statement, as a contemporary design reality, results interesting to explore, for it is about the many ways to approach these disciplines, that one can see that they share more than what one is willing to comprehend or to accept. In order to process the given information, we are to apply contemporary alternative ways to document, analyze, process, and execute the notions that resulted from the mixture. |
